EUROPE - THY NAME IS COWARDICE

I was emailed a very well written and thought provoking article this week and felt it very appropriate to post it here as a continuation of the discussion of the posting: "We Cannot Be The World's Police, Alone!"

Since it is extremely long I will only post the first few paragraphs and provide a link to my site verbatim... Ray thank you for the email.

EUROPE - THY NAME IS COWARDICE

A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Welt am Sonntag, "Europe - your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true.

Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound to toothless agreements.

Appeasement legitimized and stabilized Communism in the Soviet Union, then East Germany, then all the rest of Eastern Europe where for decades, inhuman, suppressive, murderous governments were glorified as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities.

Appeasement crippled Europe when genocide ran rampant in Kosovo, and even though we had absolute proof of ongoing mass-murder, we Europeans debated and debated and debated, and were still debating when finally the Americans had to come from halfway around the world, into Europe yet again, and do our work for us.

Rather than protecting democracy in the Middle East, European appeasement, camouflaged behind the fuzzy word "equidistance," now countenances suicide bombings in Israel by fundamentalist Palestinians. more...

Bravo! Someone finally put into words what we were all thinking.

It's hard when you have nothing to stand for ... all they have is the laurels of their past.

I totally agree that appeasement is rampant in Europe but … yes, there’s a but … how far behind are we? The 2004 elections were too close for comfort; we cannot rest and become complacent. What percentage of voters would it have taken for our vote to look like Spain’s? A 3% switch? The bottom line is that we made it past this danger zone.

Europe, like America, has a large 5th column in the press and universities. We are doing better in part because of the right-wing think tanks and conservative magazines. And, of course, we have a cultural tradition that gives us a back-wind. Even with the occupation of our universities and their hostage-like influence over our young during 4 of their most formative years, Americans continue to go through collage and remain sane.

We’re holding the line but we have to take an aggressive stance in the culture war for the souls of our fellow Americans. I trust, on this venue, I’m preaching to the converted but a little “pep talk” never hurts – I know I need it, too.

Good article!

AMEM Pappas - We (Conservative blogs) are here to be that voice and we must continue to attempt to influence and guide an electorate baraged by liberal education. - We stand together :)

Mr. Pappas--preaching to the converted is not necessarily a bad thing--it keeps things in perspective. Very well articulated comments, so please allow me to add my AMEN to PAs--Keep on preaching, Brother!
