I, for one, was quick to believe that George W. Bush would grant the left their most wanted consession. I WAS WRONG.
Announced at 7:38 PM EDT, the Supreme Court Nominee with Be Justice John Roberts. His record is being researched at the moment.

It shows considerable character to publicly admit when one is wrong, and I commend you for that--Anyway, I did not go quite that far in my thinking, although I was skeptical about who the President would nominate. Hopefully the confirmation process will move along smoothly, but initial statements from Pat Lehay and the infamous Chuck Schumer cause me concern. Stay tuned----
Two points of concern:
Says the Constitution should be interpreted based on "changing norms of justice" (source: Slate). Being that a constructionist is someone who interprets the Constitution without being influenced by "norms," Roberts is thus a non-constructionist (read: activist judge).
Says that "Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ... There is nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent." (source: The Guardian. Has also expressed support for overturning Roe v. Wade in the past. So either he has become pro-abortion since then, or is again looking toward precedent rather than law for his decision.
Ultimately, time will tell if these concerns will bear fruit. Bottom line is I am surprised that the nominee wasn't more liberal. In that respect, I am cautiously pleased with Bush's choice.
Too bad it wasn't Roy Moore, but one can only ask for so much!
A few thoughts--First, I am shocked at the lack of comment on such an important issue as the appointment of an Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court. Given the magnitude of this topic and the ramifications on the future of this country the apparent lack of interest is disturbing.
Second-to Mr. Gettis-- I agree, it is a shame it wasn't Roy Moore. That would have shook those liberal bozo's to the core. I wouldn't rule him out, although, we could be looking at the retirement of John Paul Stevens at some future time, so we can keep hoping!!
Almost forgot the most important point--PLEASE SIGN THE SUPREME COURT PETITION AND TELL THE SENATE THAT THE NOMINATION OF JUDGE ROBERTS MUST BE ACTED UPON IN A TIMELY FASHION. THIS IS CRITICAL!!!
You guys are dreaming. I don't think someone as polarizing as him will ever be nominated. If he was it would make the Bork circus look tame. I don't know allot about Mr. Roberts but he appears to be highly qualified. Let's wait for the hearings before we get too excited.
Probably so, Gort, but speaking purely for myself, I always liked shaking up the "status-quo" once and a while. I must admit, although I hadn't heard Moore's name mentioned, until I read it on this site. Also you're not alone, in that you do not know much about Judge Roberts, I don't think anyone else knows that much at this point, but from what I've read so far, he appears to be very qualified for this position, but I agree, let's wait for the confirmation hearings. I'm slightly worried by some of the initial statements that have been made by certain Democratic Senators. With luck, this won't turn into a circus--This issue is far too important to be trivialized by liberal minutia.
La bona-First please understand that my comments represent MY OWN opinion and do not reflect those of the moderator of this blog site. Having said that, it is my sincere hope and prayer that Roe v. Wade will be overturned.
Second, not only the Pope believes that Harry Potter and all other books associated with withcraft and the occult are evil. I will comment more on that later.
Third, I am a Bible-believing Christian, and therefore I fully believe that the Bible is the Sacred and inspired Word of God. Its authenticity in my view is without question
Finally, and perhaps most important, in my view is that people are debating that the Bible is the Word of God, suggests to me that people are seeking answers to some very important and critical questions. Scripture holds the answers to every aspect of our daily lives--all we need to do is look and God will show us what we need to know!
