THE "ROBERTS STANDARD"???

With so much being made of whether Senators will apply the "Ginsburg Standard" during the confirmation process of Judge John Roberts, I have to wonder, in light of certain statements that have been made by key Senators, mostly Democrats, I might add if we are seeing the developing of what I will call the "Roberts Standard?"

Surprisingly enough it was Senator Patrick Leahy who posed a theoretical church and state question to then Supreme Court nominee Ruth Bader Ginsburg, to which she replied-"I prefer not to address a question like that." Ginsburg went on to say that she would prefer to wait for a particular case. Leahy relented and did not press for an answer. But now comes Judge John Roberts, a conservative and the Vermont Democrat is singing a completely different tune.

Leahy is toying with a dangerous and wreckless precedent by attempting to have Judge Roberts pre-judge a purely hypothetical abortion case, in order to determine whether he is suitable to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Do we apply a broad standard for liberal judicial nominees, and a strict standard for conservative ones? It appears that it is not Judge Robert's ideology that's the problem, but it is the ideology of the Liberal Democratic Senators who are attempting to once again hijack the Advice and Consent role of the United States Senate, by applying a "litmus test" on the suitability of a judicial nominee.

Perhaps the Liberal Democrats should look at the recent poll commissioned by the American Family Association, that shows that 50% of the American People favor a conservative Supreme Court, against the 30% who favor a more liberal Court.
