I have been thinking about this question for a long time, and I must admit that it is not a very popular question to ask. I also believe that if any preacher were to ask such a question from the pulpit of his Church, he would soon be preaching to empty pews. Nevertheless, it is a legitimate question, and one that needs to be addressed, both within and without the Christian Community.
Looking back over the founding-era of the United States, it is clear that the Framers relied strongly on the guidance of Almighty God as they drafted both our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, believing that the People were "endowed by Their Creator with certain unalienable rights," and it was through the blessings of Providence that our Nation was formed. So here are a few questions to ponder:
1. How did we, as a Nation, get so far off track?
2. Is God judging America?
The answer to the first question, seems rather obvious and the record isn't a pretty one. In 1962 a 22-word prayer was ruled unconstitutional. In 1963 reading the Bible was declared unconstitutional. In 1973 the scourge of abortion-on-demand was unleashed on America, and in 1980 posting of the Ten Commandments in our public schools was ruled unconstitutional. Now we are confronted with gay "marriage," partial-birth abortion and physician-assisted suicide. I have to wonder what our Founding Fathers would say if they were here today?
The answer to the second question is far more frightening, and most assuredly will be an unpopular one.
We will all, individually stand before Almighty God, and give an account of our lives. The same, however will not be true of either the United States or any other Nation of the world. So, how does God deal with the matter of national sins? George Mason, who is known as the Father of the Bill of Rights said it best: "As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, so they must be in this, by an inevitable chain of causes and effects. Providence punishes national sins by national calamities."
LET THERE BE NO DOUBT IN ANYONE'S MIND THAT GOD IS ATTEMPTING TO GET THE ATTENTION OF AMERICA!! THE REAL QUESTION IS--IS ANYONE LISTENING?

ARE NATURAL DISASTERS A JUDGMENT FROM GOD???

Other countries were not founded on the Biblical principles that America was founded on. All one need do is look at the documents of that era, and our reliance on the Blessings of God becomes clear.
What is also clear is that America, over the last 6 decades has gotten seriously off track, both morally and spiritually, so what does God have to do in order to get the attention of the United States?
I must admit, squirrel, you have a unique if not a peculiar way of looking at things, however I can assure you that America does not have the sinner market cornered, But what sets the USA apart from the rest of the world is, as I pointed out earlier in this comment, This country was founded and established on Christian principles--other countries were not. I know that sounds simplistic, but that's the way it is. But don't take my word for it, go to the website for the University of Oklahoma Law Center, and look at the documents from the founding era, i.e., The Mayflower Compact, The First Charter of the Virginia Colony, The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, and The Northwest Ordinance, just to name a few.
