IS THIS MAN AN IDIOT OR DOES HE KNOW SOMETHING WE DON'T?
By picking a definite unknown to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court, President Bush has put even his base in a tailspin not knowing whether to stand behind the man who is a self-proclaimed "Social Conservative". I for one am disappointed that he has basically "Weenied" out on this pick. If he was a true conservative, he would have tabbed a no-nonsense anti abortion advocate to the court.
"White House officials said Miers is conservative enough to satisfy the president's supporters and does not have a lengthy legal record that could embolden Democrats."
You've got to be kidding me! - AGAIN WE PICK TO APPEASE NOT TO GOVERN!
OR?
Does he know that in selecting such a nominee ( A "Right Winger" ) he would destine the country with another drawnout Liberal-screaming exhibition. Maybe Harriet Miers is a deep seeded constructionalist who also is a firm believer in a right to LIFE. Unfortunately we don't know any more than the liberal democrats do at this point, nor will we know much more after a confirmation hearing. History will judge Ms Miers as will it President Bush.
My initial reaction to this pick is that the President renigged on another of his campaign promises to the religious right who worked extremely hard (in both elections) to put him there.
Are we better off than we were 6 years ago (Socially, economically, globally?) - Again history will be the judge of that.

Just wondering, PA, just what does "conservative enough" mean. Obviously she isn't a Scalia or a Thomas as was promised!
