DISCHARGE RESOLUTION ON BILLS REPEALING PAY RAISE A DANGEROUS IDEA

PA State Representative Daryl Metcalfe is circulating a Discharge Resolution on two Bills (HB 1945 PN 2739 & HB 1956 PN 2740) designed to repeal the outrageous 16 to 54% Legislative pay raise, and the "unvouchered expenses," that allowed our so-called State Leaders to circumvent the Pennsylvania Constitution. However well-meaning the intentions may be, there are several reasons why this type of manuver is a very bad idea.

First, forcing these pieces of legislation to the Floor of the House of Representatives does not guarantee that they will be voted on.

Second, 102 votes in the House and 26 votes in the Senate are required for a simple majority in order to secure passage of ANY piece of legislation. Assuming that the requisite number of votes are NOT received, there may not be another attempt to pass these important bills.

It is imperative that our Leaders get the message that the People they are supposed to represent will not tolerate their arrogance and greed, however it would be unwise to force HB 1945 and HB 1956 to the Floor of the House of Representatives until sufficient votes exist to ensure passage. Let's not put the cart before the horse on this critical issue.
