When a prominent national legal & public policy organization speaks out against the President's nomination of Harriet E. Miers to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, it is time for this individual to rethink his position .
I had originally asked in a previous posting: "Has the President Betrayed Conservatives?" In retrospect, I now believe he has not only betrayed conservatives but the American People by not keeping to his comittment to appoint an individual to the High Court in the mold of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.
The President has instead chosen the road of least resistance, in a lame attempt to appease the Liberal Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Full United States Senate.
I suspect a legitimate question for folks to ask is: Just why do I think Harriet Miers is the wrong person to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the Highest Court in our Nation? The answer is rather simple. SHE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE. Regardless of how accomplished and intelligent an attorney she may be, there are no published court opinions which could provide the needed insight into her judicial temperment and philosophy.
Being an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court is not a learn as you go position, and the issues that are confronting our Country will not tolerate such a dangerous practice.
Therefore, it is necessary that the President immediately withdraw the nomination of Harriet Miers and keep his commitment to American People and appoint an individual that is in the mold of Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. To do less represents and outright betrayal not only to conservatives but to the American People.
