Current Courses and the Constitution

Look, I've been accused of being ONLY a mouthpiece for the conservative movement and a right-wing fanatic. This is not meant to appease those people however they will I assume take it as an attempt to do so, regardless.

While I do agree with many of the policies that have been implemented in our war against terror, recent administrations both Republican and Democrat have slowly been creeping onto the slippery slope of tyranny. The latest attempt by this administration is the most blatant of them all and while I do not support the notion of impeachment, the actions do bring cause for concern for all of us.

I do not believe the attempt to wiretap phone calls being placed to Al Qaeda connections by US Citizens is a violation of any protection in the US Constitution simply because the fact of the matter is we are at War. (Aside: Technically NOT because that would require a Declaration of War from Congress which in recent administrations has been trampled upon). However these types of actions, left unchecked, do approach a unlawful area which all Americans MUST be attentive of. The arbitrary actions by our last few administrations must be reigned in. No President, no matter how justifiably motivated, cannot circumvent the authority which is strictly provided them.

Congress must gather some collective garbonzo's and assert its authority. No President should be allowed to put our troops in any other country (peacekeepers or not) without a clear and concise directive from the Congress.

I hope and pray that the placement of Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the Supreme Court will begin to redirect our government back to its boundaries. The Legislatures of our States as well as our Federal government has the sole authority in making laws and authorizing our entry into military action. It is time they take their proper place in this and prevent a President from making an incorrect assertment of U.S. resources.

Well said PA,

I consider myself a conservative in this area. No President can play fast and loose with the law while claiming some vague constitutional authority to justify his actions. He must go to the Congress for the authority to act within the constraints of the 4th amendment.
