PROTECTING MARRIAGE IN PENNSYLVANIA--ROUND 1

It's not a journey of a thousand miles, but the process of amending the Pennsylvania Constitution to protect the sacred institution of Marriage, as the "union of one man and one woman," will span two Legislative Sessions, and hopefully will end with the voters of the Commonwealth making this change a reality.

At any rate, the first step in this difficult endeavor was taken when the PA House State Government committee approved House Bill 2381, "The Marriage Protection Amendment," by a vote of 15-13. The next stop is the Floor of the Full House of Representatives.

Passage of the Marriage Protection Amendment goes far beyond mere tradition, it is taking a stand for what Almighty God has ordained over 2,000 years ago.

We are told clearly in Genisis 2:24 "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." What could be more fundamental??

When we all stand before the Lord God, and give an account of our lives, God will not ask whether we were Republican or Democrat--He will not ask if we were Liberal, Conservative or Moderate--but rest assured He will ask if we stood for those things HE said was RIGHT and did we stand AGAINST those things HE declared as EVIL!!

I'm just wondering of course--WHAT THOSE ANSWERS WILL BE??

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isa 5:20)

The simple fact dismis is, You are incorrect. This is not a "Church" issue it is a societal and moral issue on which ALL of our laws are based.

Oh and .. btw - The payraise scandal hasn't moved on in the least

Well you are entitled to your opinion but as I said before this is a moral issue not a religious one. There is plenty of evidence that laws on the books can be mutilated by an activist court with a sympathy towards the homosexual agenda. This ammendment will make sure that the wishes of the people of Pennsylvania are set in stone.

You are correct though that issues such as this must be vetted extruciatingly well before any action is taken. This issue has. All parties have and are being given adequate time and venues to debate it. Polls have been taken (while I am not a big advocate of the acceptance of poll results) that show overwhelmingly that Pennsylvania is against same sex marriage. As we have seen in the past year alone, our PA supreme court justices are anything but conservative constituitional constructionists. This is the reaons this amendment is necessary. It will quell any possiblity of further erosion of our families.

dismis--You are right. There is a "Defense of Marriage Act" in Pennsylvania that was passed in 1996, and is states that it is the longstanding policy of this Commonwealth that marriage shall be the "union of one man and one woman." However it is a statutory enactment, and can easily be overturned by an activist Judge should the DOMA be challenged in Court. Once an amendment is approved by the voters of Pennsylvania and becomes part of the Constitution, it cannot be overturned.

The protection of the institution of marriage goes far beyond mere tradition, or "church issues" as you suggest, it is taking a stand for what God Himself established and ordained over 2000 years ago.

And just for the record--your "slippery slope" argument was pretty lame!

No dismis-individual rights aren't lame but your argument is. How does protecting the sacred institution of marriage threaten individual rights anyway? This is just another red-herring that is being thrown into this debate to cloud the issues.

I had thought this was gong to be a reasoned and intelligent debate on this issue, but considering the nature of the issue I suspect I had set my expectations slightly too high.
