I own a gun. I have never fired it. My wife doesn't even know it exists. I do not own it for defense of my country, or even defense of my family. I work in a city with the third highest murder rate in the country and I have it for my own piece of mind. Subconciously, I think I have it because I value my rights as an American citizen and my right to protect myself.
I can imagine a scenario, not unlike that of September 11th, where an group infiltrates our country and begins a cycle of bombings and shootings intended to instill fear and inflict casualties among the civilian population of the United States. What would be the reaction of this administration? It doesn't take much to begin thinking based on their actions to date, that they would lock down major cities and impose marshall law.
What would you do if our government did the unthinkable...and came after our guns? Our constitution (the rule of law) protects our rights to keep our government from doing just that. However it has been trampled on by administrations of all political parties. Don't come after me on a Republican vs Democrat approach because I think if you all truely and honestly look at it, you know I'm right. Would you stand up for liberty? Would you allow the same type of military state to take over our country that so many others in Europe have experienced?
Did you ever think you would hear that the United States government would order commercial companies to hand over personal records of US Citizens? Well that happened! and the national guard has been called up to secure our southern borders (reminder: our constitution prohibits our military from being called upon to police our citizens)
Long and short - "times...they are a chang'n" - keep your eyes on your property, on your family and on the political manuevoring.... Our government's role is to protect us. I don't know about you but I don't want to trust that our government can get this one right.
