A recent editorial from the Lancaster Intelligencer-Journal asked some interesting and I would think thought provoking questions. Here is how I would answer them:
First: How lawmakers can keep a pay raise, even though the legislative act is
unconstitutional? ANSWER: Technically, they can't--Well unless you thumb your
nose at the State Constitution that clearly states that a legislators salary
cannot be increased during the same legislative term.
Second: How judges can keep pay raises the legislature repealed? ANSWER:
Again, THEY CAN'T! Well unless you twist and turn the State Constitution to
suit your arrogance and greed, saying that the salaries of judges cannot be
diminished. In case you folks weren't paying attention, they weren't
diminished--The legislation providing for the raise was blatantly
unconstitutional, so the raise is rendered null and void!
Third, finally and most important: Whether any of this will matter in the
upcoming election? The answer here is obvious--IT SHOULD!! PA CleanSweep's
"mantra" says it all--"VOTE 'EM ALL OUT!" Those who voted for and accepted the
raise, those who voted against the raise, but claimed the money through the
"unvouchered expenses," and even those who voted against the raise, and didn't
claim the "unvouchered expenses' but chose to remain silent about whether or not those who collected their illegal increase should pay the money back! Quite
frankly, the primaries were only the beginning. November 7, 2006 starts the
task of finishing this job. We must also look to future elections when other State Supreme Court Justices will come up for retention votes. And here's a little reminder--JUSTICE THOMAS SAYLOR IS UP IN 2008!!!
And let's not forget about Eddie "Slots" Rendell in this whole pay raise mess, because he's no white knight. Oh he may have signed the bill repealing the raise, but he also signed the monstrosity that set in motion the great firestorm of public opposition we have been seeing since last July.
The time is now for the People of Pennsylvania to send a clear message to the folks under the Dome in Harrisburg--that we are tired of back-room deals, and stealth legislation being passed in the dead of night.
As I have said many times before--OUR GOVERNMENT ANSWERS TO THE PEOPLE, NOT THE THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!! General Election Day is November 7, 2006. Make your voce heard, and hold our so-called leaders accountable for their acts of irresponsibility, arrogance and greed!

This is why I am not voting for any incumbents.
My solution VOTE FOR NO INCUMBENTS. Reguardless of party. Vote for the person and not the party. When you only vote for the party you are fooling yourselves.
