COMPROMISE ON IMMIGRATION OR A SLAP IN THE FACE???

Politics, I'm told is the art of compromise, but is the "agreement" reached by Congress on Immigration reform a "compromise" or simply a slap in the face to every hard working American citizen? From where I sit, I think the latter would be the most logical school of thought.

Simply put, folks who entered the United States illegally should not be able to benefit from breaking the law, and no excuse, i.e., trying to find a better life, can justify such behavior. What I am having difficulty understanding is why our so-called leaders do not grasp that simple concept.

America is indeed a melting pot of cultures and people, and many folks have entered these borders legally seeking their dreams, but there is no excuse or justification for flatly breaking the rules just because there are millions of individuals in this country illegally and living and working on the good graces of the American people.

Our Laws are in place for a reason, and those who wish to come to America to make a new home and life, can do so within the system of our country, those who choose to do so through illegal means must understand that there will be consequences for their actions. They should NOT be rewarded for their bad behavior and poor choices.

If I may (not that E-town needs anyone to stand up for him)... what the hell does that have anything to do with this post at all? The subject of the post is immigration and (lack of) reform.

Fact: our "mentally diseased forefathers" negotiated for years with the crown before any violence errupted, ANY! - Today's fundamentalists don't need an excuse to kill, they just do it. To compare the two is utterly obsurd.

Thanks for the support, CV, but here's my two cents for what it's worth.

This country IS a land of immigrants--LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, who came to these shores with dreams of a better life. They became naturalized citizens and learned our language and got jobs to support their families. With this I have No problem. But I have a serious problem with allowing millions of people to enter our country illegally and our so-called government giving these people the benefits of our nation, exonorating their tax responsibility for a period of time, and providing them with jobs at the expense of the American people and those who immigrated legally to our shores, and finally providing them with a "fast-track" mechanicsm to obtaining citizenship. And did I forget that they are not required to learn our language. This is not only ludicrous it is an insult to every hard working citizen of the United States. The proposal that is pending before the Congress in my view is a sham. It puts the cart before the horse by allowing the 50 million or so illegal immigrants to be rewarded for breaking our Laws, and then taking steps to secure our borders. Let's secure the borders first, and then deport these illegals to where ever they came from and make it clear that if they wish to return to America, then they will have to do it the right way--OR NOT AT ALL-IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE!
