A LETTER TO "FAST EDDIE" ON ACT #1

In an e-mail message from PA Eagle Forum, it was suggested that Pennsylvania voters contact their State Representatives/Senators and the Governor regarding the defeat of the Act 1 Referendum question, that proposed a shifting of the property tax burden, by allowing School Boards to opt for either a personal income tax or an earned income tax. As many of you know, "Fast Eddie" claims that the resounding demise of the Act 1 question was because of "voter confusion." As you will see from my e-mail to the Governor, I suggest the opposite--Our esteemed Governor and the State Legislature are the ones who are confused if they thought for one minute that the people of Pennsylvania would buy their dog and pony show. They tried this type of thing once before with Act 72, but I guess some folks just don't get the message.

My e-mail to "Fast Eddie" is below:

Governor Rendell: I think it's YOU who is confused about what Act 1 will or will not do. Please do not insult the intelligence of the voters of this great Commonwealth by trying to lay the defeat of this "boon-doogle on our door step, when it rightly belongs on YOURS and the State Legislature. I can't honestly believe you would have thought that the people of Pennsylvania would have bought the smoke and mirrors that a mere shifting of the tax burden was in the best interest of the Commonwealth. Frankly, I have never supported, nor will I support allowing School Boards to have taxing authority. Pennsylvania needs true and workable property tax reform, not just a shifting from one rip-off to another. Personally I think it is time to give serious consideration to a total abolishing of the property tax system, or at the very least providing tax credits or rebates to those families who are living on a fixed income.
