This whole Moul field thing in Hanover, York County is obsurd. A large plot of land was donated almost a century ago by a family who had good hearts. They thought that the children and families of the Hanover area deserved a recreational area large enough to provide for many. They donated the land with only one stipulation, It must be used for recreation only, otherwise it would come back to their rightful heirs.
Hanover Public Schools decided that building a new state of the art (alias for expensive) school on that land was appropriate even after many learned people said rennovating other facilities could do the job. It was decided that Moul field would be the most expediant place. Too bad the borough (and most of the Hanover area population disagreed). It was such a charged issue that a coalition of taxpayers banded together and ran for school board (and won) in order to stop the district from moving forward with the new school. The local borough of Hanover even went to the point of filing Eminent Domain to seize the property. The school board fought back and filed the same in an attempt to take it back. ... Government at its finest right?
After what seems like an eternity, it appeared a few weeks ago finally that adults had gotten hold of this the tug-of-war for Moul field and would put it to a logical and economical way. Well hold on just one second there's still a chance for ignoramous's to gain the upper hand. Why do I say this. Well for a few weeks now we've been hearing how the School Board in Hanover felt it was now time to "move on" and "save the taxpayers the money" and the borough chided in with "we do not want this to spend any more time in the courts costing the taxpayers ", "We can build elsewhere" or simply refurbish another facility... The borough of Hanover countering with we would like to buy the land back from the district to guarantee its future.FINALLY some common sense.
Then come the coalition of new school board members with their ideas... but instead of embracing the good faith and initiative of these fine people, the borough makes statements like "We're not negotiating with them, we already have negotiations with the current board." That's rediculous! - in a few months whatever this board has already decided will saddle the new one with it's failures or inadequacies. I could understand if this were a close election coming in November and the outcome of control of the school board were in doubt but it's not! and not allowing the views of these "members in waiting" to be heard and entertained is just well... stupid.
Let's everyone try to continue what seemed to be the more intelligent and mature path started last week and do what's best for the people and children of Hanover. For just once ..huh what do you say?
