From time to time, I like to shift gears and explore a topic outside the traditional "political" realm. Today's subject is, you guessed it, Michael Vick's apology for his involvement in dog fighting--an activity which may land him in federal prison, and rightly so!
This individual finds it very hard to understand, why a young professional athlete, with a bright and promising future in the NFL would allow himself to be drawn into this horrible, inhumane and illegal activity? I don't think we will ever get a satisfactory answer to that question. This, however is not the underlying question that must be answered. The big question is, as indicated by the title of this posting is: IS MICHAEL VICK SINCERE?
It's easy for a prominent person, such as a professional athlete to say that he or she takes responsibility for his/her action or bad judgment, which Michael Vick did, but he also did two other things that most people in the public eye rarely do. Vick said "I'm sorry", and "I was wrong". This gains a lot of creditability from where I sit. But he still has much to prove.
The next point I want to explore, is Vick's claim to finding The Lord Jesus Christ, and if he is truly sincere, and time will bear this out, then I wish Michael Vick well, as he is beginning probably the most difficult journey of his life, even more so than facing federal prison for the crimes he committed.
Let's be clear on one significant point--when one accepts Christ as their Personal Savior, and has received the awesome gift of eternal life and forgiveness of their "sins" that does NOT remove the punishment of "man's law" for crimes committed against society. Michael Vick's eternal punishment may have been removed, through the shed blood of Jesus, but he still has to deal with the possibility of a long prison sentence for his crimes.
Scripture tells us clearly, you will know the tree by the fruit it bears. If Michael Vick is sincere, and he truly has accepted Jesus Christ into his life--time will tell!
