As I read an article, in the Lancaster Intelligencer-Journal, by Peter DeCoursey that was entitled: "Voters bury any chance to reform PA Politics," I thought-- how easy we dismiss the happenings of the last two years and declare that the furor over the Legislative & Judicial pay raise is dead. However from my vantage point on this and other issues, I personally believe that we still have a real chance to change how business is done in Harrisburg.
True, the results weren't what some had anticipated, nevertheless I believe the political landscape, as a result of the aftermath of the ill-fated pay raise, has been irrevocably changed. Voters are more wary, and smooth-talking politicians are being viewed with more skepticism.
It is simply short-sighted to assume that voters have forgotten about what happened in 2005 based solely on the results of one election, because organizations like "Rock The Capital" and "PA Clean Sweep" have turned on a gigantic spotlight on our so-called leaders, and can very easily send another shock-wave of protest and outrage across this Commonwealth at the next sign of those all too familiar tactics from those folks who are supposed to represent the will and interest of the People of Pennsylvania.
Do NOT dismiss this election so quickly, because there will be another round of judicial retentions coming in 2009.
The work of reforming Harrisburg isn't over--IT'S JUST GETTING STARTED!!!
