RETHINKING THE CITIZEN'S CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

OK in a previous posting I had taken the position that the Citizen's Constitutional Convention, as embodied in PA Senate Bill 1290 could have disastrous consequences for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However that assessment was based on misinformation resulting in unrealistic fears about the process and the necessity for it.

Having not only spoken to individuals who are more versed in this subject than am I, and actually reviewing the actual language of the legislation, I now believe that there are significant advantages to convening a state-wide citizen's constitutional convention. My reasoning is rather simple to understand, particularly from a conservative point of view.

Simply put, our so-called Legislators, for one reason or another are not willing to address the various issues that are confronting the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, among which are: Property tax reform, enacting a Marriage Protection Amendment, repealing the slots machine gaming law, repealing Pennsylvania's Agency Shop Law, and a variety of other controversial issues.

The Constitution of Pennsylvania, as well as our Declaration of Independence declares that power in inherent to the people, and having made that point, I believe that it is incumbent upon WE THE PEOPLE OF PENNSYLVANIA, to take the lead and make the hard decisions that our so-called Leaders refuse to make.

As I have said, time and time again, in a Representative form of Government, such as we have, our Government/Legislators answer to the People, not the other way around.
