Republicans and Conservatives for America
The so-called compromise on President Bush's judicial nominations has taken the Senate's role of Advice and Consent to new levels, albeit not higher ones. But if that's not bad enough, now the Democratic minority is threatening to block the nomination of John Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations. Is there an epidimic of filibusteritis running rampant through the Halls of the United States Senate? One has to wonder? Call me silly, but it appears if the Democrats don't get their own way they could threaten to hold the whole legislative process hostage by means of the filibuster. Let's face it--There simply has to be a better way to do the people's business, instead of the people thinking they're getting the business.
Although I think the filibuster should be abolished, at least as far as judicial nominations are concerned, I also believe that serious consideration should be given to limiting when this approach may be used, lest the minority party, regardless of whether it is Republican or Democrat can throw the country into complete chaos for nothing less than a temper tantrum.
