With Pick - Bush Either Ready to Abandon Conservatives OR - Has something up his sleeve!

George W Bush appears ready to announce his Supreme Court Candidate sometime this week or early next. Pundits and Aids close to the President have leaked the name of Judge Edith Clement of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in New Orleans.

Ms. Clement is a signal by the Bush Administration that he is NOT going to fight democrats on this selection! - But is he doing so to appease liberal democrats and moderate republicans OR is she an unknown commondity that will bring stability back to the high court.

She is a wildcard - she has no relatively no judicial baggage written or verbal to peg her down on high fever issues such as abortion or judicial activism. Either George Bush is playing a shell game with the liberals in the senate or he knows something about this candidate that he's not sharing. In any event it APPEARS he has abandoned the right wing of the Republican party and that will be infuriating to those who held this selection as a righting of the ship in the Supreme Court.

I can only say that I hope Mr. Bush knows what he is doing with this selection. Only time will tell if he is playing cat and mouse with the Senate or if he really has turned his back on his base and ultimately destroyed the future of the Republican Party.

This is not the time to be trying to appease the Chuck Schumer's, Ted Kennedy's or Hilliary Clinton's of the world by appointing a "moderate" to the Supreme Court. If this is the direction that the President is heading, I for one, will be greatly disappointed. Just for the record, the two names I've heard so far were Michael Luttig and John Roberts.

Oh, I almost forgot, Janice Rogers Brown's name has been tossed around as well, since it is obvious that the President is getting pressure to replace SDO with another woman.

QUESTION ANSWERED:

MSN: Known as a conservative and a strict constructionist in legal circles, Clement has eased fears among some abortion-rights advocates. She has stated that the Supreme Court "has clearly held that the right to privacy guaranteed by the Constitution includes the right to have an abortion" and that "the law is settled in that regard."

BUSH HAS ABANDONED CONSERVATIVES OF THE PARTY!

This is not the answer I was hoping for. I fear we can expect more judicial activism in the months to come!!!

IF this is true, (and there seems to be more speculation that is isn't) THE FIGHT IS OVER - she will be confirmed overwhelmingly and the hope for a renewed america will be lost
