Constitutional Solitude

The education and governmental agencies monitoring our school systems have again shown that they know nothing about our country or the foundations of its' existence. These groups have determined that a single day of the year is all that is necessary to instill the value of a document that hundreds of thousands of men gave up their lives to protect.

A recent NY Times and LA Times poll notes that over 60 percent of children ages 10 to 18 could not identify the constitution among other documents of historical significance. In addition of those 40 percent who could identify the document only half could explain its significance or the difference between it and the Declaration of Independence.

This document is the foundation of our country. It is what governs our day to day legal system and not only have these school children not read the document - they didn't even know what it looked like! - This is a catastrophy.

One day to study the constitution? - You've got to be kidding. There are so called Constitutional scholars who've spent the better part of a lifetime studying it, who haven't grasped the complexity of it. -

We need a manditory civics class in school for grades 5 through 12 and not as simply a sidebar to social studies. This needs to be a full scale discipline.
