Sorry I've been away for a while (I know some of you are sorry for my return). My family has been dealing with a great loss this month and I haven't felt too much like writing or arguing with you people :)
Nonetheless....Ahhhh August. The coolness of the 5 am air giving way to the 90's by 10. The smell of flowers, and now finally - the snap of a helmet, the sound of camp - IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON AGAIN! - I'm just about ready to come out of my winter and spring funk and begin smiling. From November to Late June, early July I am a pain in the asphalt.(ask my wife) - The older I get the longer the time spread becomes. However - football is in the air and I am as ready as I've been for a season since I was 12 years old.
Football. It takes all types of people to make a great team. Grunts, helper guys, cocky-runners, intelligent quarterbacks and receivers (I throw that in for old times sake) - It is a game of brute force and subtle choreography
It has changed tremendously with the influx of big money, but it seems like everything we discuss here has that component involved, right? I can't stand the Terrell Owens's of the league but since he is no longer a 49er, good riddance.
I much more enjoy a good high school football game when I can watch though - no money only short lived fame :)
So welcome back to my favor time of year - I'd love to hear predictions for the coming season...

I'm right with you Brother--I've been following the Phillies when there's nothing else on worth watching, and that's not saying much. My wife is like yours I think--she tolerates a little football, but not much. I like the Miami Dolphins and my son lives and dies the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have to say that I agree with you about the TO's of the world. From my point of view, I think he's vastly overrated, which will no doubt raise the ire of Eagles fans. But that's OK, because I haven't pi@@ed anyone off lately--so I'm overdue. I'll hold off on my predictions until I see a few pre-season games--So stay tuned.
You need to explain how TO is over rated. If he is not the best in the game, he is definitely a top 3 receiver. His work ethic can not be questioned consider his coming back from a broken leg a torn tendon when every doctor told him not to play. If the Eagles would have won the Superbowl, it would have been up there with Schilling's bloody sock. My prediction is the Eagles are still the team to beat in the NFC. Their defense is just awesome.
Maybe I wouldn't think so, if he wouldn't act like a jacka## on the field and learn to keep his mouth shut off the field. He's a professional athlete, and he should realize that puts certain responsibilities on him to ACT like a professional! I think we've seen too much of that sort of thing with "prime-time" Dieon Sanders--BTW I think he's overrated too!
I love football but the opening of training camp means we are close to the end of summer. We only have 3 months, I wish it was more. TO is a hot dog, so was Deon Sanders. They are fun. If you shoot your mouth off you better back it up on the field. They do. TO once responded to his critics of his touchdown dance by saying if you don't want to see it keep me out of the endzone. If the Eagles won the Super Bowl he would have been the MVP.
His off field antics are another subject. If he doesn't think he is making enough money maybe he should get himself elected to the legislature. Then he could set his own salary.
Terrell Owens is the epitome of what's wrong with professional sports. "All I want to do is be able to feed my family. I want what's fair" - I know about a million people who feed their families on allot less T.
No athlete is worth $49 million dollars. - BUT.. I could overlook all of that if he were of the character of Jerry Rice or Joe Montana, or Brett Favre or Jim Kelly or a handful of others who didn't complain that they were not the center of attention, didn't scream "I'll Leave" if you don't give me what I want no matter how gross the figure. - He's a crybaby selfish basement dweller with suspect talent. I say suspect because you give me terrell owens or John Stallworth catching a pass across the middle of a field of linebackers and I guarantee - T.O. will duck for cover! - He's a pussy and a crybaby and Philly fans - you'd have made it to the superbowl without him anyway - so much for that $49 million being well spent.
You cite many great names, PA, but unfortunately TO can't hold a candle to any of them even on a mediocre day, let alone a good one. If TO had gone through half the injuries that Montana had during his carrer he wouldn't have made it. As receivers go I would add Lynn Swann, Fred Biltnekoff (Oakland Raiders), Lance Allworth (San Diego Chargers, Bob Hayes (Dallas Cowboys) and a few others. Hall of Famers ALL. TO has a long way to go before he's even close to the calibre of these folks.
