While I was working yesterday evening, I read an interesting letter to the editor, in the Lancaster Intelligencer-Journal and some of the points that were made are worth mentioning here:
1. The uproar over the Legislative pay raise will dissipate by the time of the November elections.
2. The voters/taxpayers don't care about what's going on in government.
The sad truth is that the author of the letter is very right, although some may disagree. However, it is largely due that attitude of complacency that has caused many of the situations we are confronted with today. For example, when the pay raise was first reported in the media, the outcry was deafening--NOW it's all but a whimper. Our esteemed Legislators found a "loophole" so that they can skirt the constitutional ban on having their salaries raised until the next legislative session, by taking the increase in the form an "unvouchered expense," which is added on to their salary. Can we say hypocracy?? If you can't--I sure can, because that's exactly what it is!
The November elections are not far away, and every citizen/taxpayer should remember those Members of the General Assembly who placed their selfish, greedy interests over those of the People of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I'm actually amazed that this story still has legs. It's not as intense as when it first happened. But whenever I bring it up it gets unanimous scorn. This is not a left/right Dem/Rep issue as everyone I know is pissed off about it. I hope to see one of our esteemed thieves at Convention Hall in Pittston tonight. Joseph Leonardi will announce his candidacy for the 11 th district. I enjoy our discussions guys and I've added you to my blogroll.
Unfortunately you are right about the lack of intensity this issue has had lately. I've been watching the petition and so far there's only 274 signatures, and that's a good start but we need many more if there's going to be any sort of impact when it is submitted to the Legislature. If I and PA have anything to say about this matter folks will not forget about it soon. I truly hope that the voters remember which of those "esteemed thieves" voted for the pay raise, and particularly which ones opted for the "unvouchered expense" which enabled them to get their money this year, and virtually ignores the constitutional ban on lawmakers raising their own salary during the same year. NOVEMBER IS NOT THAT FAR OFF!!
