TODAY THE UNITED STATES SENATE VOTED 78-22 TO CONFIRM JUDGE JOHN G. ROBERTS, JR., TO BE THE 17TH CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES. We are seeing history in the making, and it speaks volumes to the greatness of this Nation.
Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, during Judge Robert's confirmation hearings, declared that our country's "journey of progress is under assault from the Right." But I have to ask, quite bluntly--just where is the assault really coming from? No conservative I know would ever support abortion-on-demand, same-sex marriage, physician assisted suicide or banning the public displaying of the 10 Commandments and prohibiting the reciting the Pledge of Alligence, because it contained the words "One Nation Under God."
Nevertheless, even with this declaration from the distinguished Senator from Delaware, an overwhelming bi-partisan majority of the United States Senate voted to confirm John G. Roberts, Jr., as Chief Justice of the United States.
America stands at a great moral crossroads, and the make-up of the Supreme Court will determine its direction for the next 5 or 6 decades. It is my hope that the President is true to his statements that he will appoint a Justice that is in the mold of Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas, because to do otherwise would be a betrayal of the highest magnitude.
