OK folks, it's time for the next nomination to the United States Supreme Court, and early speculation suggests that the President may pick either a woman or a minority to succeed Sandara Day O'Connor. The names that have been tossed out so far are as follows:
FROM THE 5TH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS: Judge Priscilla Owen, Edith Clement, Edith Jones, &Emilio Garza.
FROM THE 4TH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS: Judge Karen Williams
Judge Owen is a pro-life advocate. Judge Clement is described as a conservative jurist in the mold of Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia.
Judge Karen Williams of the 4th Circuit is considered the most conservative of the women judges on the short list.
Should the President choose a minority who is not a woman, Judge Emilio Garza heads that list.
Judge Garza's opposition to abortion is unquestionable, and he wrote two opinions in which he explicitly criticized Roe v. Wade and suggested that it should be overturned.
Any one of these 5 should be enough to have the Kennedy's, Leahy's and Schumer's of the world frothing at the mouth for the next round of confirmation hearings.
It is imperitive that the United States Senate move both deliberitely and swiftly to confirm a strong conservative Justice to the Supreme Court, following the confirmation of Judge John G. Roberts to be the next Chief Justice of the High Court.
