SLOTS OFFER NO HOPE FOR PENNSYLVANIA

From the very beginning of this debate about bringing casino-style gambling to Pennsylvania, I have consistantly opposed this concept, because I believe, that in the long run it will be the ruination of this Great Commonwelth.

Nevertheless, gambling proponents in Adams, Dauphin, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties are proceeding full speed ahead with plans to bring slots parlors and perhaps full blown land-based casinos to these areas. But what I find most disconcerting is that it is not just folks from Pennsylvania that are competing for the licenses being offered by the newly formed State Gaming Control Board, but individuals from as far as Detriot and California have expressed an interest in obtaining a license to operate a gambling establishment in our fair State.

Excuse me for asking, but just how does this benefit the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its citizens/taxpayers?? The simple answer is--IT DOESN'T!

I continue to be seriously confused how Pennsylvanians will enjoy increased employment opportunities, and economic development and prosperity with out of state concerns seeking to obtain the operating licenses for the ill-advised establishments.

The Rendell Administration needs to rethink this whole concept of using gambling revenues to pay for State projects.

Casinos IMO, are a last resort to another source of income in order to buy more votes.

A lot of pet projects, and pork spending with a state budget short on cash, where do they turn if taxes are already too high?

Stop the pet projects! - Our governments (state or otherwise) are not intended as corporations. They should be taxing us for the common peace (state militia) and for fire and police service. Education was not a RIGHT provided for in the state or Federal constitution, its' time they stop extorting money for it. -
