Want People to VOTE - Move it to Weekend

Here's a novel idea. Want to get people out to vote? - make it more convenient for them to do so. Tuesday who's idea was that anyway? - People complain that tremendously more people vote for the offing of a contestant on American Idol than come close to voting in an election... well if voting could be as simple as picking up a phone then more would do it. I'm not advocating vote by phone persa but there are simple ways to make it easier.

1. Move election day to Sunday. The effort to vote should not violate anyone's sabbath
2. OR make it a national holiday - free from the encumbrances of work - paid as long as you submit your vote stub

What do you think?

I would be in favor of reinstating the holiday for "election day," (primary and general). In my never to be humble opinion that should never have been changed in the first place. Folks presently have to "jockey" time between voting and their jobs and ultimately the former will suffer. The ability to vote is one those things that sets America apart from other countries of the world, and the powers that be should do all that is required to make this process easier for its citizens.

If you want more people to vote then give them something to vote for. Every canidate is the same. In the last election I really had no one to vote for. Nader is a Commie, Kerry is a SOcialist and bush is a Liberal. I think most people are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. A guy I worked with put it best when he said,"he democrats and republicans are taking us to the same place the democrats are just doing it faster." Put some real canidates how there who speak truthfully about what they believe and what they're going to do. Be honest about the issues at hand and you would see a higher voter turnout.

P.S. Nice to see you guys have kept up the intresting debate here

Welcome back Shafter79--you've been gone a very long time! BTW: You made some excellent "arguments" and I agree with every one!
