Amendment? - We don't need no stinking flag amendment!

First and foremost, I love my country and I respect our flag. More importantly I respect what the flag is a symbol of. I like many of you have had relatives die for what it represents - democracy, freedom! I do not however believe that we should have an amendment barring flag burning.

Why? - Well for the first thing, it is the proper and correct way to dispose of a weathered or damaged flag. Are we going to charge each military branch sergeant who follows a command to do what is done daily in the ranks with older flags? or those which have touch the ground? - Surely not... but then what are we going to do.. make laws which say who and for what reason it may be burned? hummmmm.... (slippery)

then... what exactly is the definition of flag desecration? Would we charge those who don't "respect" the flag in ways such as forgetting to take it down overnight? (Flags flown after sundown are rightfully to be illuminated however many are not)

or... how will we define a flag exactly? - Would a towel with a representation of a flag be considered desecrated if it is lied upon on a beach? or hung out to dry backwards by accident?

Our flag represents the ideal of our country. Many of these principles are founded on an individuals' right to freedom of expression, speech. The physical flag is only the visual representation of these ideals. How we live our lives is the real testimony.

We must honor our country by taking our civic duties seriously. Jury duty, voting, local government, these are the things that matter. Does it turn my stomach to see someone lighting up our flag - HELL YES! - Do they have the right to this disgusting display of expression? - unfortunately YES AGAIN.
