Clean Sweep Jane Earll For Weakening The Marriage Amendment.

The PA Senate Judiciary Committee voted today on the PA Marriage Protection Amendment (HB 2381). It passed through the committee, but with a weakening amendment proposed by Erie Senator Jane Earll to remove the language after the comma, which could allow a future court or legislature to legalize civil unions or other counterfeit "marriage ". This weakening amendment passed with a vote of 9-5 (see the roll call). The final vote out of committee was 13-1 with a lone "protest" vote by Sen. Jane Orie, a strong supporter of marriage protection who spoke in favor of the original bill.Sen. Earll's weakening amendment was strongly opposed by the bill's sponsors and by the Pennsylvania Family Institute, the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference and the entire Pennsylvania For Marriage Coalition. Next step: Consideration by the full Senate."We are extremely disappointed by the vote to weaken the amendment... and believe that without significant citizen outcry, it may have been killed outright," said Michael Geer. "Now is the time to call your State Senator, and ask that HB 2381 be restored to the House-passed version when the bill comes to a vote on the Senate floor. "Full Senate action may come the week of June 19th. Pray and Act now that HB 2381 language is restored! Click here

All Hail Jane Orie... you go girl!
