This is a slam dunk isn't it. I mean who can argue that we don't allow people to board a plan or a train without ID, we don't allow people to cash checks or even rent video's today without having some form of photo id? Why then would there be any opposition at all to requiring photo ID to vote? -
"This bill is tantamount to a 21st century poll tax," said Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md. "It will disenfranchise large number of legal voters."
Are you kidding me? - What you are really saying is that it could hurt your chances with minorities, the poor and the elderly _ groups that tend to vote Democratic _ who might have trouble producing a photo identification.
I have news for you. That demographic doesn't generally vote! - Unless, that is you are rounding them up in buses to drag them to the polls and providing them a free luncheon - then yeah - they will tend to vote democatic - hell they'd vote socialist if it mean not having to worry about food for the day. But that's another story altogether.
So the real reason democrats are against this bill is that it will add an obstacle to their election day scheme. Now on top of renting the buses, and driving people to the polls, they will have to add a stop at the DMV or social services to picture them up. - Sad isn't it.... that's the real reason they don't want voter required ID's, it will eliminate a possible source of votes.
