DOWN BUT NOT OUT

Last evening (6/7/2007) by a vote of 45 yeas and 50 nays, (see Roll Call #206) the United States Senate failed to end the debate (invoke cloture) on S. 1348 the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill.

As a result of that vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, pulled the bill from further Floor consideration, but this story is far from over because it will be back, sooner than we think.

In the meantime, it is suggested that every person concerned about this issue, should contact their two United States Senators, and thank them or voice their disappointment, based on how they voted on this issue. Just for the record, Senators Specter and Casey both voted to end the debate on this controversial piece of legislation.

Let our so-called leaders know that we must first secure America's borders before addressing other issues. Allowing for special visas and providing for "guest-worker programs" does not solve this problem. It only makes it worse!

As I said before, and I'll say it again and again, YOU CAN MAKE A GOOD BILL BAD, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE A BAD BILL GOOD--AND S.1348 IS A BAD BILL!
