Overwhelming Fear

Supreme Court Justice Cynthia Baldwin obviously sees the need to fear the Pennsylvania citizens. Her op-ed peice released today shows a wantened desire to convince people that judges are just "doing their jobs" and this should not be a political issue.

Justice Baldwin unfortunately you and your fellow judges make it a political issue when we, through the rightfully elected legislature enact laws that are of the people and for the people, and you under the guise of "doing your job" legislate from the bench. Just because you personally do not like a law does not make it unconstitutional and this tactic has been the norm not the exception.

You are correct when you say..."The retention system was not designed for use by those with a political agenda. On the contrary, retention was designed as a nonpolitical merit system to allow voters to keep or reject judges individually, based solely on each judge's record after a full term in office."

The retention election is being used EXACTLY in the way you identify. The people of Pennsylvania do not think much of the merit of our current judges based on a number of rulings duing their many full terms in office. They've proven to be working with an agenda that is all their own and protecting a falonious legislature to boot.

Your argument is that there is a call for a "wholesale elimination of experienced judges." Somehow that is a problem for Pennsylvania? - The types of experience that these judges have gained isn't a benefit to our State, its part of the problem.
