It's 9 months until the General Presidential Election, and this will perhaps be the most critical choice the American people will ever make. It will set the tone, whether for good or bad, for the United States for the next 50 years and beyond.
While there is still time for debate, analysis, and even a bit of conjecture, let's take a look at the numbers as far as the Delegates each of the major candidates have won so far.
To give a little background, before looking at specific candidates, a total of 2,025 Delegates are required to win the Democratic Nomination, and 1,191 Delegates are needed in order to win the Republican Nomination. Here's how the numbers break down by Candidate:
John McCain--703--60%
Mike Huckabee--190--16%
Mitt Romney--293--24%
#################
Hillary Clinton--1,024--51%
Barack Obama--993--49%
Conceivably John McCain could have the Republican Nomination all but won by the time of the Party's Convention in September. The Democrats, arguably are too close to call.
Nevertheless the Nation is at a crossroads, and these numbers don't lie. When the dust settles and there are only TWO candidates remaining, America will once again be faced with choosing the lesser of two evils, and as one who has been involved in the political processes for most of my adult life, I think we've seen too much of that already. However it's not likely to change with this election, and that does not speak well for the future of the United States.
