CONSERVATISM IS NOT DEAD!!

Author's note: This posting is a response to a commentary entitled "Conservatives Lost More Than An Election," authored by Dr. Chuck Baldwin (see http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/ for more information)

In the commentary referenced above, Dr. Baldwin made the statement: "For all intents and purposes conservatism--as a national movement is completely and thoroughly dead." Sorry, Doc, but I couldn't disagree more. Conservatism has been badly damaged, but don't get your forks out just yet--We're not done!

Just to keep the record straight, Barack Obama didn't beat John McCain--John McCain beat himself, and anyone who knows anything about the conservative movement in the United States knows that.

The purpose of this posting is to share some of my observations about what we should have learned from the debacle of the 2008 Presidential election.

The first thing we should have learned is that you can't elect a liberal dressed up as a conservative. The selection of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate was clear evidence of this fact, however politically astute her selection was, it was too little too late to salvage McCain's candidacy.

Second, we should have learned that if conservatives, continue to compromise their principles they will soon lose all creditability as a national movement.

Third, while we have daunting task ahead of us, the cause of conservatism in America can be revived into a strong political force, but this job will not be easy.
Fourth, and finally we must begin the task of identifying those individuals who are committed to the cause of conservatism in our States and our Nation. We must then actively campaign for their election to whatever office they are seeking. The time of choosing the lesser of two evils is over. The time of compromising conservative principles and values, for the sake of political expedeiency should have been over long before we reached this desparate point.
Again, the task of restoring conservatism as a viable political force in the United States, will not be easy, and it will not be achieved overnight, however rest assured it will be accomplished, but only if we hold fast to the traditional conservative ideals and principles.
