Using the powers of the State Constitution, Governor Ed Rendell has called for a "Special and Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly," in order to address the issue of property tax reform. Excuse my bluntness, but I am more than a little suspicious of "Fast Eddie's" motives here.
From where I sit, this comes down to one thing: This is another arrogant and shameless attempt by the Administration and the Leadership in the General Assembly to ram Act 72 down the throats of the people of Pennsylvania. Never mind that 80% of the 501 School Districts have already said they didn't want any part of this program, and the so-called wind-fall that is being promised by the infamous Act 71.
If this sounds a bit totalitarian--YOU'RE RIGHT! And shame on us ALL if WE THE PEOPLE OF PENNSYLVANIA allow this to happen.
Decisions of this magnitude MUST be decided by the People, through a referendum at the polls, and if we REJECT the proposal, then the Government must respect that decision. This is how a democratic form of government is supposed to work, unless I have forgotten my history.
HELLO-MR. RENDELL!! ARE YOU LISTENING???

I think this whole slots funding education thing is a bad idea for many reasons. First of all I doubt it will generate as much revenue as they hope and they put so many conditions on the money the local boards are right to be wary. Maybe Rapid Edward and the pay grabbers should go back to square one and come up with a better plan.
You hit the nail right on the head, gort-I couldn't have said it any better!!
If anyone has any suggestions on how to stop this crap - I'm all ears
Pa, I added word verification to my site and it stopped it. It adds an extra step to commenting but it stops this nonsense. The instructions are on the dashboard page when you sign into blogger. If you need any help toss me an email. gort42@yahoo.com
