COMPLACENCY IS ALIVE AND WELL--UNFORTUNATELY!

From time to time I look at the two petitions that are posted on this blog site, particularly the "Supreme Court" petition, and I am gravely disturbed at what I see. From the time this petition was developed only 9 persons have seen fit to put their names on it. Considering that our country in currently engaged in a debate over who will ultimately succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court of the United States, the lack of interest in taking a firm public stand by our citizens is cause for much concern.

Whether you are a person of faith or not, it is important for all citizens to be involved in the issues of our day, or as I was reminded recently, the time may come when we are no longer able to speak out on the things that matter, because we would have lost that right, or perhaps more accurately-we just gave it up through our own complacency.

The real issue is not just putting one's name on a petition, but rather it is about believing in something strong enough, regardless of the individual issue, and having the conviction and commitment to say so publicly, even if taking such a position results in criticism. This is what the United States of America is all about and it is what sets us apart from all other countries of the world.

In sports, it is said that the best defense is a good offense, and having made that point, it is necessary for all people, Christian and otherwise to take the offensive and speak out on the issues of the day. To do less, we risk the liberties and freedoms that so many have fought and died for.

Too many Americans equate ACTIVE with ACTIVIST and become fearful of involvment.
