Judges in Pennsylvania are not like Federal Judges, who are appointed for life. Judges in Pennsylvania are appointed, but face a "retention" vote every 10 years.
I raise this point because 2 Justices of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will face such a "retention" vote next November, namely Sandra Schultz Newman and Russell Nigro.
Why, you may ask does this make any difference? Well, here's Why:
For the years that I worked in Harrisburg, there was NEVER any allegations of collusion between the General Assembly and the Judiciary when the issue of Legislative pay raises came up. However, as the "article link" below indicates things are very different today.

IT'S TIME FOR THE PEOPLE OF PENNSYLVANIA TO MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR!!
Note: Also remember those Members of the State House and Representatives and State Senate who voted for the pay raise and the "unvouchered expenses."
Let our so-called Leader know once and for all, we will not tolerate their thumbing their collective noses at the Constitution of Pennsylvania and the will of the People of this Great Commonwealth!

Good point DJB. Retention elections are pointless. I think Judges should be chosen in a different way, but that is a different arguement.
I agree, gort they are pointless, because of all the years I've been voting I've never seen a Judge be "rejected." And actually, if memory serves me correctly only ONE Justice of the PA Supreme Court was ever impeached and removed from Office. There has to be a better way to select our state judges, but for now this is what we have to work with.
Well its better than retention for life! - We should be able to recall any legislator and judge immediately!
