FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TO "GUEST" WORKER--Is there something wrong with this picture???

When is an illegal immigrant NOT an illegal immigrant? Sounds like a totally stupid question, but when you analyze the so-called immigration legislation which is under consideration by the U.S. Congress, you will find out that the answer is when the person is a "guest worker." And from where I sit, this is simply outrageous.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we allow "illegals" to work in America, they will be taking jobs away from American citizens, they will be taking health and insurance benefits away from American citizens, and it will cause the American unemployment rate to go through the roof, which stands at 4.8% (as of 2/2006 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics).

As was written in a previous posting on this site, America is the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, but citizenship is not a right unless you are born here. I would add to that statement that the privilege of becoming a citizen of the United States is not extended to every person who wants to become one.

America is truly a melting pot of cultures, and this is one of the things that sets the United States apart from any other country in the world. It is a land of opportunity for those individuals who have "legally" come to these shores seeking to make a better life. However this so-called "guest worker" program that allows folks who have crossed our borders illegally to freely work in our country, and have access to a variety of programs paid for by the American taxpayer is just wrong.

Our elected officials, and especially the President need to hear our strongest objections to this outrageous and ill-advised proposal.

No absolutely not it will not help "Keep tabs" - all it will do is further burden an already overburdened taxpayer base with a while bunch of people who refuse to accept assimilation.

Don't wave your Mexican flag at me in my country and say how you are being victimized! - You are breaking our laws just being here at all. You should be in jail not being handed amnesty. Sending you home is the best possible scenario for you who wish to wave foreign flags.... wave them till your heart's content there. When your ready to accept ALL the things that come with being a citizen of our fine country (plus's and minus's) then come in through an immigration port and we'll be happy to have you join the party (in other words paying local, state and federal taxes) along with the great healthcare, readily apparent food, etc etc.

oooo whow your right.... I wasn't accepted at all by the debating elite of my high school and I've been harboring resentment and anymosity ever since! thanks for they psychoanalization!

"Some people who are here illegally now don't have any desire to integrate with our society" -

Great! They can leave. You just made my argument - they are here for the better life they can have here in the US but don't have any intention of becoming a citizen and contributing to our national goals.

The country's goals you ninny. "back to mexico as soon as they have enough saved up"

What exactly is that amount - when they have stolen -tax free- money and lived on the backs of American taxpayers for x number of years?

We should support them, their families, and educate their children free of charge? - Give me a freak'n break.

I've tolerated your obnoxious tone by the way for a while now. If you intend on discussing this with the attitude, we'll just leave your comments in moderator status - feel free to discuss without the attitude
